ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES |
Master of International Studies & Postgraduate Diploma of International Studies
Overview
The Master and Postgraduate Diploma of International Studies (Environment) have an applied interdisciplinary focus. Most international issues of significance go well beyond the boundaries of any one traditional discipline and the resolution of the issues inevitably requires that the knowledge, insights and methodologies of different disciplines must be brought together and synthesised. The MIS seeks to provide students with a grounding in the key environmental disciplines. The degree develops the students' understanding of the significant international environmental issues and the social, political and business context of these issues.
The MIS programme is two years in duration. During the first year students will take five mandatory environmental papers related to business, politics, science, and culture. These papers provide students with the basic tools of interdisciplinary methodologies. They include a capstone paper in Environmental Management which ties together themes enunciated in the first four papers and which offers students the opportunity for critical analysis of issues via selected national and international case studies.
Students who carry on to complete the MIS will be able to undertake traditional academic research through the Thesis or Research Paper. Alternatively, students may choose to undertake more applied client-based Executive Strategic Project or Executive Research Projects.
Duration
Two years (Five terms) for the Master of International Studies. The Postgraduate Diploma of International Studies takes one year (Three terms).
